Amy Lee

Sugar beet grower

United Kingdom

The faces of AB Sugar
Amy Lee Sugar beet grower United Kingdom

Amy has been based at her family’s farm in East Anglia for the past five years, growing sugar beet as part of the arable crop rotation.

During campaign – the period from when sugar beet is lifted from the ground and delivered to the factory to be processed – Amy is based in the Farm Office. Communicating with the haulier about the daily loads going into the factory, monitoring the live feed of deliveries online to keep an eye on the sugar quality registered at the factory tarehouse, and checking the amount of soil accompanying the deliveries which is then reused by British Sugar.

She explains what excites her about working in the agricultural industry: “I’m particularly interested in seeing the amount of innovation taking place now, and what this could look like in the future as well as the new technological developments that will impact our family business.”

Her future ambition is to be a Director on the family farm; but for those starting out now, her advice would be: “Really get stuck in and don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions. Be prepared to put the time and effort in!”
